Text

Bolding

Enclose the text in **double asteriks** to bold your text.

Italics

Enclose the text in //double forward-slash// to italicize your text.

Strike-through

Enclose the text in --double hyphen-- to strike your text.

Underline

Enclose the text in __double underscore__ to italicize your text.

Color

Enclose span style="color:red"the text/span in a span tag to add color.

Enclose the text with a ##blue|predefined## color.

  • Predefined means you simply type the name of the color.

Enclose the text with a ##70018B|custom code##.

  • Custom code means you look up the color's hex value and use that.
  • Coloring text like this is very similar to linking text: you define the color, use the | bar symbol, and then the label text.

Size

You can use size smallerrelative sizing/size to shrink text.

You can use size largerrelative sizing/size to expand text.

You can use size 80%precise sizing/size to shrink text.

You can use size 150%precise sizing/size to expand text.

Align

Center

= Preface your line with an = sign, followed by a space, to center your text.
= You have to do this with each line of text: if you hit enter, you need to add a new = prefix to the new line.

Preface your line with an = sign, followed by a space, to center your text.

You have to do this with each line of text: if you hit enter, you need to add a new = prefix to the new line.

You can also enclose your text in a =equal tag/= to center your text. The tag must begin and end on its own line (hit the Return key after starting the tag, and before ending it).

This is useful for when you want to center multiple elements at a time, or you have many line breaks in a chunk of text.

Right

Enclose your text in a >greater-than tag/> to align your text to the right. The tag must begin and end on its own line (hit the Return key after starting the tag, and before ending it).

Left

By default, all text is aligned left. You do not need to enclose text in a tag to align it to the left. If you want to anyways, simply reverse the align-right rule and use a <less-than/< tag.

Headers

+ Prefix the text with a + sign, followed by a space. The more + signs you add, the more subheaders levels you explore.

Quote

> Prefix each line of text with a greater-than sign, followed by a space, to have text appear in a quoted box.

Use in-line formatting as per normal with quoted text. Tags must enclose around the quoted text; you cannot have tags in-line with the quoted text.

  • e.g., Centered text with bolding and color:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.

Also, add >> two greater-than signs for additional indentation.

Footnotes

Enclose your text in the footnote foot note tag /footnote immediately after the text1 you wish to mark2.

Superscript

Enclose the text in ^^carets^^ to superscript text.

Subscript

Enclose the text in ,,commas,, to subscript text.

Teletype

Enclose text in fancy brackets for teletype (monospaced) text.

Code

Enclose text in codecode tags/code to have it display in a code block. The tags must start and end on their own lines.

To get this…

An example code block!

You must type this:

code
An example code block!

Unparsed, raw text

Enclose text in double-at symbols (@) to have it display **//unparsed and raw//**, unaffected by wiki formatting.

Breaks

Spacing between chunks of text or elements on your page can affect the readability of the information. It also helps things look good. There are four ways to line break text with wikidot:

  • Using the Return key once.

  • Using the Return key twice.

  • Using the Paragraph break command.
  • By typing space-underscore, " _" and hitting the return key, you will tell the wiki to include a paragraph break. You can affix this to the end of the line, or between two lines. This is very useful for simply spacing out sections and leaving gaps between elements.

  • Using the Line break command.
  • Just like the Paragraph break, but reversed: type underscore-space, "_ " instead, and affix it to the end of the line. This is useful if you're trying to shape text, "keep it together," or if you don't want the big gaps that simply hitting the Return key gives you.

Linking

If you're linking to somewhere outside of the wiki, you need to include the full URL destination.

  • To make a link: you type the URL address first, then a bar | symbol, then the label text.
  • It must include the http:// and/or the www. prefix, or it may not work.
For instance, if I wanted to [ link to more information regarding Shar] from an outside source, I would type the following...

If you're linking to another article in the wiki, you do not need to include the full URL destination.

  • To make a link: you type the wiki's internal address first, then a bar | symbol, then the label text.
I just linked to [ a pretty green-haired dragon-kin] by typing...

Tables

Table tags are not mobile-friendly. Mobile browsers do not handle tables well, and you risk much of your table's content to be unreadable or inaccessible to a mobile user. Because of this, you may want to avoid using tables.

If you'd like to use a table regardless, and if that table has multiple columns or a lot of width-spanning data, I'd ask you take the courtesy to enclose your table in the following div tag:

div class="table-container"
your table code here
/div

This tag allows the table to be right-left scrollable on mobile screens.

Simple tables

By default, simple tables center themselves. Sometimes, other tags or formatting may break this default and your table will align-left. Simply enclose your table in a = center tag /= to solve this.

head 1 head 2 head 3
cell 1 cell 2 cell 3
long cell 4 cell 5
cell 6 long cell 7
looong cell 8
||~ head 1 ||~ head 2 ||~ head 3 ||
|| cell 1 || cell 2 || cell 3 ||
|||| long cell 4 || cell 5 ||
||cell 6 |||| long cell 7 ||
|||||| looong cell 8||

Advanced tables

An easy way to view advanced tables:

  • Table tag
    • Row tag
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
    • End row tag.
    • Row tag.
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
      • Cell tag, end cell tag.
    • End row tag.
  • End table tag.

table style="attribute1; attribute2; attribute3 ..."
row style="attribute1; attribute2; attribute3 ..."
cell style="attribute1; attribute2; attribute3 ..."

The table, row, and cell tags have the following possible attributes under their style attribute:

  • background-color: hex code or name;
  • border: 1px solid black; define the width in px, the style below, and the color with name or hex code.
    • none
    • hidden
    • dotted
    • dashed
    • solid
    • double
    • groove
    • ridge
    • inset
    • outset
    • inherit
  • margin which defines the spacing between the top, right, left, or bottom of the table (not row or cell) and outside content.
    • margin-top: auto, px, em, or %;
    • margin-right: auto, px, em, or %;
    • margin-bottom: auto, px, em, or %;
    • margin-left: auto, px, em, or %;
  • padding which defines the spacing between the top, right, left, or bottom of the table (not row or cell) and the inside content.
    • padding-top: auto, px, em, or %;
    • padding-right: auto, px, em, or %;
    • padding-bottom: auto, px, em, or %;
    • padding-left: auto, px, em, or %;
  • width: px, em, or %; to define the width of the table, row, or cell; either absolute or relative to the page.

Uploading to wiki

Please don't. There's only so much space available on the wiki, and images will eat that space. I won't tell you how because don't do it.

Here are some sites for free image uploading:

Resizing the image

Please, please, please do this! Giving your image an absolute width value is good design practice. In the image tag, simply add the width attribute and define it in pixels (px).

Other

Collapsible blocks

Enclose anything you'd like in collapsiblethe collapsible tag/collapsible to let others show/hide the element.

collapsible show="+ Show me!" hide="- Agggh, take it away!"
Whatever text to show/hide. Maybe even an image or a table!

Horizontal rules

The horizontal rule must be on its own line to appear. Simply type ----@ four hypens for a horizontal rule.

Lists

For a bulleted list, preface a line with an asterik (*). To indent the list further, simply place a space before the asterik.

  • Flowers
    • Roses
      • Pink ones!
      • Red ones!
