History
When he became self aware, Tozak realized his awareness was the result of growth through change, and through prior destruction. He felt a deep affinity for the process of change and for the ever-moving fire that typifies change that is both destructive and constructive. Tozak dislikes cold and ice, as for him the stillness of freezing typifies stability, stasis, stagnation, and ultimately, corruption. He changes shapes like others change clothing, but with a notable preference for fire related forms, and a distinct distaste for cold related forms. Though he changes form freely, he considers his most natural form to be his orcish shape. Tozak early discovered the Bagnorns, who had continued to worship their own fire-god, Kath’Tozak, with clergy of sorcerer-priests, long after he had ceased to exist in the great Divine wars. From their unknowingly dead religion Tozak took both name and form, as he decided to fill the role of their dead god. He began to communicate with the religious leaders through dreams, possession in mystical trances, and visitations in a variety of forms. After the internal schism caused in the Kath’Tozak temple, which has largely been overcome, Tozak was able to establish himself as their god. Tozak does not view himself as exclusively their god, as change and chaos are aspects of the world far beyond the Bagnorn Holdings, but he does derive great strength from their devotion.
Tozak seeks to build his strength, aware of the presence of the force that terminated the prior generation of gods. This effort is typified by his subversion of Bagnorn cult. He will occasionally intervene in mortal affairs, though seldom in his orc form, and not always in the way the mortals would hope. He is a capricious ally and dangerous enemy.
Tozak believes change and chaos are the source of strength, and the essence of existence. He believes promotion of change is cosmically necessary, and that fire rejuvenates as much as harms. He is unpredictable- he’s as likely to burn a forest, knowing the ashes will rejuvenate the soil and forest, as he is to prevent one. Though less concerned with nature as a whole, this treatment of the forest typifies his whole approach to existence. He finds lawfulness highly distasteful. Though he dislikes the lawful character of the Hammersong dwarves, he values their use of fire- in Tozak's view, a well made weapon is a beautiful tool of change.
Tozak is willing to work with demons to achieve his purposes. He despises devils, however.
Tozak died alongside the other old gods at the end of The Shadow War.
